Building a global operating system for complex B2B Sportsbook & Trading tools
The Challenge
Flutter’s sportsbook and trading teams operate across multiple brands, markets and specialist product areas. Over time, tools had evolved independently, creating fragmented workflows, inconsistent user experiences and duplicated design and engineering effort.
Our challenge was to create a shared product foundation that could support highly complex trading and risk workflows, while remaining flexible enough to meet the needs of different brands, teams and technologies.
The goal was not simply to standardise the interface. It was to build a global operating system for sportsbook and trading products: a connected set of principles, patterns, components and behaviours that enabled teams to design and deliver more consistently at scale.
A key part of my leadership was helping teams see the system not as a design initiative, but as a business capability: one that could reduce duplication, improve product quality and enable faster, safer delivery across a global organisation
The Impact
The programme created a stronger shared foundation across sportsbook and trading products.
It enabled teams to:
Reuse proven patterns rather than repeatedly solving the same problems
Deliver more consistent experiences across complex tools
Improve collaboration between design and engineering
Accelerate prototyping and product validation
Reduce design and development duplication
Create clearer standards for quality, usability and accessibility
Prepare products and teams for AI-assisted delivery
Scale product decisions across multiple brands and markets
Most importantly, it helped shift the organisation from building isolated tools towards creating a connected product ecosystem.
Here's what that shift looked like in practice — from a fragmented set of tools to one connected trading workspace.
TraderOS is where that foundation shows up in practice — one connected workspace built on the shared components, patterns and principles the system created.
