Embodied Interaction in an Augmented Reality Narrative Experience.
Our enduring love of story is deeply rooted in how we make sense of the world. It is at the core of the human experience. Our minds narrate life as it unfold before us. Story is a tool we use to share our inner worlds with each other. Through a good tale, fable, or yarn, we can enrich the lives of those around us.
The Concept
The concept for this project has grown out of the question; how can we tell stories with Augmented Reality? This project seeks to take a narrative structure and apply it to an augmented reality to create a unique and enjoyable experience for the user. From this first question came a flurry of deeper questions into how to actualize a narrative with augmented reality. There seems to be an infinite number of ways to use the technology but what has remained at the heart of this project is building something that exists in a liminal space. The project sought to build an experience in which the user can experience a story in both a physical and digital realm. The concept is to build a narrative using the physical world with augmented digital layers. The physical world will serve as touch points or as a guide to the fictional world the user is experiencing. Through the application of narrative structure and embodiment, the user is given the structure and tools to move through a physical experience that is driven by digital layers. Through experience prototyping and continuous testing the concept has evolved into what an augmented reality experience could be.
